Forgiveness & Grace Devotionals

Daily devotions on forgiveness. It's a decision, not a feeling, and mostly a gift to yourself.

Forgiveness is a decision, not a feeling. And it's mostly a gift you give yourself, because unforgiveness chains you to the exact thing you're trying to escape.

I've had to release people over the years. A wrong that was never acknowledged. A friend who disappeared. Here's what I learned: forgiveness is not the same as reconciliation. You can let someone go completely and still keep a wise distance. I take a wide berth around the pig pens, and I don't feel guilty about it. And the harder case is often forgiving yourself.

These devotions on forgiveness and grace won't rush you. Forgiveness in Scripture is releasing a debt, and you don't have to feel like doing it before you do it.

Questions

How long is each devotional?
+

About five minutes. One passage, a short reflection from Ed, and one thing to do or say that day.

Do I have to feel like forgiving before I do it?
+

No. Forgiveness in Scripture is a decision to release a debt, not a feeling that shows up on schedule. These devotionals are honest about the gap between the two.

Does forgiving someone mean letting them back into my life?
+

Not necessarily. Forgiveness and reconciliation are different things. You can release someone fully and still keep a wise distance. Several of these deal with exactly that line.
