You Were Made for This

Read

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Think

You weren’t an accident.

You weren’t the result of chance, coincidence, or cosmic randomness. You were created on purpose—by a God who doesn’t make mistakes.

In Ephesians 2:10, Paul tells us something powerful: We are God’s handiwork. The Greek word here is poiēma—meaning “workmanship, craft, poem, masterpiece.” The idea is that your very existence is the result of divine design. You are not mass-produced. You’re handcrafted. Authored by God himself.

And not just created for beauty—but for purpose.

Paul continues: “Created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” That means that even before you took your first breath, God had already imagined the impact your life would have. He had already placed purpose into your DNA. You’re not just saved from something—you’re saved for something.

But let’s be honest: that’s easy to forget.

We scroll past other people’s highlight reels. We compare our daily chaos to someone else’s polished success. We think things like: “I’ve missed my window. I don’t know enough. I’ve messed up too much. I’m not spiritual enough.” Or maybe we’re just tired. Going through the motions. Wondering if this is all there is.

But here’s the truth: Resurrection didn’t just redeem your past—it redefined your future.

The same Jesus who rose from the grave is still calling you forward. He’s still speaking identity over you. And he’s still inviting you into a mission that only you can fulfill. You don’t need a platform. You don’t need a spotlight. You just need to say, “Yes.”

And here’s the crazy part: those “good works” God prepared? They’re probably not far off. They might look like everyday faithfulness—checking in on a hurting friend, making dinner for your family, sending a note of encouragement, or choosing forgiveness when bitterness would be easier. The kingdom of God often moves in subtle, mustard-seed ways.

Don’t underestimate the power of a life surrendered to God’s purpose. D.L. Moody once said, The world has yet to see what God can do with a man fully consecrated to him.”

That’s not just about pastors or missionaries. That’s about you.

When you know you were created on purpose, for a purpose, everything shifts. You stop chasing identity and start living from it. You stop striving to be valuable and start serving because you already are. You stop waiting for perfect conditions and start walking in obedience.

Jesus didn’t rise from the dead just so you could go to heaven one day. He rose so you could live in purpose today. Fully alive. Fully sent. Fully his.

So yes—you were made for this. Not because you’re flawless. But because the One who formed you is faithful. He’s already gone ahead of you. And he’s placed things along your path that only you can do.

All you have to do is walk in them.

Apply

Look back over this week. When did you feel most alive or connected to God? That could be a clue to the “good works” He’s inviting you into. Ask God to reveal one thing today—big or small—that he’s calling you to step into. Write it down. Then take the step.

Want to go further? Reach out to someone who’s encouraged you in your purpose—and thank them. Purpose is contagious.

Pray

Father, thank you for creating me with care, with love, and with purpose. I confess that I often forget that. I compare, I question, I doubt. But you’ve already called me yours. Help me walk in that today—not to earn your love, but because I already have it. Show me the good works you’ve placed in front of me. Give me courage to step into them. I was made for this—not because I’m capable, but because you are. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
