What Jesus Would Say to Tiger Woods: Short of the Green

Read:

Romans 3:23-24 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Think:

Tiger Woods has unimaginable riches and talent. He can buy himself anything and has won 82 PGA tournaments, 5 Masters Tournaments, and 15 Majors. The gentleman is dedicated and hardworking. But there is one thing that he can’t purchase or earn - his salvation.

It is common knowledge that everyone is imperfect, including Tiger Woods. We understand that people fail often and are imperfect. We acknowledge that this sentiment springs from the reality of sin in every human’s life. Without “the redemption that is in Christ Jesus” we can do nothing but sin (Romans 14:23), relegating us to a life consistently “short of the glory of God.” Here’s the good news: Paul didn’t stop at verse 23! We are raised from a place of condemnation to a place of adoption. It is as if we were on the stand on trial and everyone knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that we were guilty. But a marvelous thing occurred, and rather than send us to pay the penalty for our crime, the Judge’s son, Jesus, took our place, and we were declared justified.

Tiger doesn't have to work or procure salvation. Jesus has already paid for it. He has to accept it; he must acknowledge that he is a sinner and that Jesus paid the price for his eternal salvation.

Apply:

If you haven’t settled your heavenly destination you can settle it today! Ask Jesus to rescue you! He wants a relationship with you!

Pray:

Jesus, I know that I am a sinner. I realize that I can’t earn my salvation but you paid the price on the cross. You rose from the grave after three days to give me eternal life in heaven. I receive the free gift of salvation. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
