Read:

Psalm 147:3, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Think:

The Bee Gees wrote a song in the '70s that was incredibly popular, called How Can You Mend a Broken Heart? What is it about this song that makes people identify with it? Perhaps it’s that most of us have had a broken heart at one time or another. Maybe it was caused by a person, a situation, or a circumstance. No matter the cause, this reality of life can leave a hole in your heart; it can leave a gaping wound. But it is in your pain that God is the closest.

In Psalm 34, we find that David, who had gone through a crushing loss, needed to be reminded that God was near. If you continue in the passage, you will discover David pointing out to himself how good God is, over and over. He was speaking the truth he needed to hear. So, if you are brokenhearted or crushed, talk about the reality of God’s love and goodness. Speak His promises; His presence is near to the brokenhearted.

Act:

Read the verses above out loud to yourself. There is power in hearing yourself speak the truth. God will put the pieces back together as you surrender your hurt and pain. Allow Jesus to comfort you and guide you.

Pray:

Jesus, I am brokenhearted, and I feel alone. I ask that You meet with me and bring Your comfort and companionship. Thank You. Amen.
