John 20:17, “Jesus said, “Do not hold on to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, to My God and your God.’”
Psalm 68:5-6, “A Father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families, He leads out the prisoners with singing…”
Many of us have been blessed to experience God’s love through a biological dad, a stepdad, a grandfather, or another male figure in our lives. But even if that isn’t the case, there’s great hope to be found in knowing that your Heavenly Father — who’s been there all along — is perfect and loves you perfectly.
In today’s verse, Jesus is making a powerful statement after the resurrection to His mother, Mary. He’s saying that regardless of who our earthly father is, from that day forward, no child is left orphaned. In fact, Psalm 68:5 reminds us that God is “a Father of the fatherless.” This gives us great encouragement!
You see, Jesus paved the way to allow each of us the opportunity to turn from our sin and have a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. God, the Ultimate Caretaker, encourages and loves us more than we can ever imagine. He’s the epitome of a dedicated dad who is and always will be your loving and faithful Father!
If your father is alive, call him today and tell him that you’re glad to have him as a dad. If you have a strained relationship with your dad, consider writing him a letter. If your dad is no longer with us, spend a few moments reflecting on what he meant to you and how he impacted your life. If none of the above applies to you, write a thank you note to God telling him how grateful you are that he is always there for you when you need him.
God, You are such a good, good father! I’m so grateful for Your constant provision, love, and guidance. Forgive me when I’m prideful and forget that I’m your child, your loving offspring. On this special day, my heart’s overflowing with joy because You are such a Faithful Father! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
